Portable Fire Extinguisher Training.

Do YOU know often it’s required?

In delivering training to both vessel owners, marinas and businesses it’s become apparent that many, if not most do not actually know that extinguisher training is a legal requirement, especially for marinas and businesses.

Under AS_3745-2010 Planning for emergencies in facilities Section 6.5.3 First-attack firefighting occupants (persons/workers) shall attend a skills retention activity (training) in the use of portable fire extinguishers at intervals of not greater than two (2) years.

For commercial vessels crew members who have undertaken training as a Master/Coxswain, GPH or those who have completed a Shipboard Safety Skillset (formally Elements of Shipboard Safety ESS) will have had exposure to extinguisher training.

Other crew members may not have any training in the use of portable fire extinguishers but really need to have it as when at sea it’s only the crew there to deal with fires, there’s no calling the fire brigade!

Do you have workers and/or crew members who require fire extinguisher training? We can deliver a fire extinguisher course on-site, hassle-free.

We will arrange for all materials and permits (if required) in advance, send one of our marine industry expert trainers to your venue, complete a risk assessment and can even tailor the course should this be required.

By the end of this course, participants will be aware of:

  • What they need to now about fire extinguishers;
  • Types (class) of fire extinguishers
  • Hands on use of a fire extinguisher – with a real-life fire in our controlled equipment for each participant to extinguish;
  • Using a fire blanket (if applicable)
  • Identifying and understanding a Fire Chart (which we provide);
  • Inspection and recharge requirements of fire extinguishers.

Your business will receive a digital certificate including all participants details after completion of the course.

Shorlink is committed to conducting our training in an environmentally responsible manner. We only use SMART fire extinguisher technology which simulates dry chemical fire extinguishers which does not impact or harm the environment.

Shorlink’s Recommendation

 We recommend that you ensure your workers and/or crew members are trained in the use and application of portable fire extinguishers. This training provides legal protection in the event of a fire incident and gives you comfort in knowing all of your workers and/or crew members know how to use a fire extinguisher!

 Secondly but most importantly you are compliant!

Tip

Our number one tip is to ensure you are compliant by undertaking fire extinguisher training every two (2) years. Don’t wait until a fire occurs because if your workers/crew members need to read the instructions it’s probably too late!

Shorlink can deliver training develop an ongoing training schedule for your marina, business or crew members.
