Whilst Distress flares are a valuable safety item that can aid rescuers in locating you in the event of an emergency but…knowing how to use them effectively and safely is imperative!
While flares are easy to use it’s important that you know how to use them properly and safely to ensure you don’t get injured.
It’s important, no vital, that all onboard read and understand the activating instructions for your flares before you need to use them. Trying to read the instructions in an emergency situation when you’re under pressure and stressed can lead to serious injury or a failure to let the flare off when most needed.
You’re in an emergency situation and need to attract attention to help rescuers narrow down your position but…do you know exactly when to set the flare off?
The survival of your crew is directly related to their knowledge of both onboard fire safety equipment but just as critical is actually handling of distress flares.
Here at Shorlink, we offer a Distress Flare Specific Training Course which is very much a hands-on but also an eye-awakening experience. Each participant will activate an actual distress flare to ensure they know how to activate, but also, they are aware of the physical impacts and what is looks like. Therefore, should an incident occur, they are confident in their abilities without surprises.
This course is conducted on-site with your crew and designated personnel. We arrange all permits and provide all flares required to ensure a safe and fully immersive environment.
We strongly recommend undertaking one of our Distress Flare training sessions where every participant gets hands on experience in letting a distress flare off.
We include an introduction to flares and their use along with an outline of actual experiences in emergency situations. This is followed up with all participants activating a distress flare under the guidance of our highly experienced trainer. Contact our office for details on 07 4242 1412.
