Several months ago, we introduced information regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and how it can easily poison your workplace.
Unfortunately, we have been approached by a member of the marine industry and by using AI, they have got themselves into serious trouble/issues with both legally and financially.

As AI continues to grow, we see businesses using it more and more to save time, potentially boost productivity, wanting to increase profits and general overall performance. However, while AI has many benefits, you need to be aware that it definitely has limitations and dangerous risks that must be considered before adopting it.
Adopting AI into your business should not be straightforward, and you must consider the following challenges:
One of the biggest challenges in AI adoption is poor-quality data. Often, data is fragmented, inconsistent, or outdated, making it hard for businesses to use AI effectively and accurately. To make AI work, businesses and the people implementing it, need to ensure a bullet-proof data management practice and a very clear strategy for collecting and organising data before starting any AI projects.
AI does require specialised skills to ensure the data you are using is both accurate and safe. Many businesses struggle to find an expert with the necessary experience needed to develop and maintain safe AI systems.
AI technology is expensive, especially for businesses without in-house expertise. Beyond the initial investment, there are ongoing costs for training, system maintenance, and software updates. These ongoing expenses can be a barrier for any business, especially in marine industry.
Outdated or incompatible systems can seriously impact the implementation of AI technologies. Your systems need to be able to handle the processing required of AI applications. This may involve upgrading hardware and software to create a suitable environment for integration.
AI systems are complex and require regular updates to stay effective. If something goes wrong, restoring an AI system can be time-consuming and costly. While these risks exist with all software, AI’s complexity can make the impact of system failures more severe.
AI must integrate well with existing systems to be useful. If AI solutions are incompatible or employees don’t fully understand how to use them, integration will be challenging. You should ensure that any AI tools used in workplace, work smoothly side-by-side with your other software and that staff are properly trained.
AI systems often handle sensitive customer data, raising concerns about privacy and data security – sometimes without your knowledge! Additionally, the process in which AI provides information ie it may be drawing from another country’s legislation etc, which can make you non-compliant,
AI systems can and does create security risks. Scammers love that often users are unaware and act as an AI systems to hack or malfunction your systems which will cause serious harm. To avoid this, you must invest in strong security measures to protect your systems.
As AI systems learn and evolve, they can behave in unexpected ways. These ‘unintended consequences’ can be difficult to predict and might lead to problems that were not foreseen when the system was created. Therefore, you must monitor AI systems closely to prevent this.
AI has the potential to be great but at present it has been responsible for many issues in many businesses. In one company where they replaced its purchasing team with AI only to discover it ended up costing more!
Artificial intelligence(AI) is great at finding information, but it’s not great at evaluating who posted it, why it exists, or whether it’s even trustworthy. The susceptibility to risk exposure, non-compliance and worse means it’s not necessarily safer.
Check your sources always, every time. Don’t engage AI actively in any way, shape or form until you are 100% sure you have mitigated the risks mentioned above.
CYBERSAFE CYBERSAFE CYBERSAFE!
This word encourages you to ensure your systems are in place and protected in case of a scam or malfunction. This ensures if you are using AI – be responsible and smart protecting not only your information, but accounts, hardware and your business.
