With the reissue of Marine Order 504 on 1st August 2023 and the release of Marine Order 505 earlier this year, an Annual Review of your SMS is not only necessary but critical!
All Safety Management Systems including those developed for Domestic Commercial Vessels (DCV) under Marine Order 504 and the ones developed for workplaces under Work Health and Safety are required to undergo an Annual Review or Audit to ensure compliance.
Failure to complete your Annual Review or Audit leaves you non-compliant and exposed to legal action in the event of an incident or accident.
DOES require several changes to your current SMS including your Risk Register and Procedures – so why not complete your Annual Review at the same time as updating your SMS?
However, don’t wait for your Annual Review to update your SMS – as the changes are required to your SMS immediately!
We envisage that AMSA will increase their inspections of your Safety Management System and Operations in the near future given the necessary changes that they have issued ensuring all vessels are compliant.
It has never been more important to ensure your SMS complies with Marine Orders 504 and 505 and the NSCV.
